Short Biography
Tyler is a senior at Fort Hays State University in Hays, KS, where he is majoring in Information, Networking and Telecommunications with an emphasis in Information Assurance. He has over six years of experience working in the Information Technology sector and actively pursues research opportunities in the areas of counter-terrorism, information warfare, incident response, and national security. He also has over three years of experience working with policy at the local and state levels on a variety of issues related to higher education.
Tyler has been involved in the IT field since 2004, when he was first published on PCMech.com with his article on creating a web and file server. Since then, he has been published hundreds of times by major internet publications, edited PCMech’s Build Your Own PC book, and edited the enormously popular Installing Ubuntu Linux.
In 2006, Tyler was hired at Twotrees Technologies, LLC as a web developer. In his time at Twotrees, he developed a ticket-based support system for external clients and a customer management system for internal use. He worked with a variety of technologies, including PHP/MySQL, LDAP, and Linux.
Tyler first ventured into public policy in 2009, when he was elected Vice President of the Fort Hays State University Student Government Association. In 2010, Tyler was elected President of the Student Government Association and was re-elected in 2011. SGA has given Tyler the opportunity to develop his strategic leadership skills through hands-on involvement with dozens of committees and organizations around campus. His major policy initiatives included increasing the availability of AED’s on campus, improving students image in the community, and increasing the number of campus-wide community service activities.
Tyler is currently looking for employment opportunities in the national defense industry.
